title of cadet service
The Cadet Command of Hong Kong St. John Ambulance Brigade was established in 1948. It's objective is to train teenagers (aged 12 to 18) in First Aid, Home Nursing, and encourage them to develop their interest in social and practical skills such as Road & Home Safety, Community Care, etc. which are conductive to their development to becoming good citizens. It is hoped, too, that the Cadet Region will lay the foundation for membership of the Ambulance and Nursing Divisions of the Brigade.
At present, all Cadet Divisions are established in secondary schools. service of cadet
The Cadet activities are multifarious. Cadets will participate in Leadership Training Programmes and receive training in other proficiency subjects such as Fire Fighting, Canoeing, Camping, Life-Saving, Rock Climbing, Map Reading, Cookery, etc.
Community service projects such as medical check-up for elderlies, hospital visits, recreation activities for the underprivileged are organized, so as to allow the cadets to serve the Community. By attachment to Adult First Aid Squads, First-Aid duties at beaches, schools, matches, etc. are arranged. Annual activities such as Passing Out Parades, Enrolment Ceremonies, Competitions in First Aid & Home Nursing Skills, Annual Inspections are also organized.
On request from the public, Cadet members of the Brigade will assist charitable associations in flag selling and organizing community projects. Those in need of the service may write to the Youth Officer at least two months in advance. However, since all Cadet members of the Brigade are secondary school students, the services are generally confined to duties on weekends, public and school holidays. Whether the requests will be considered and approved by the Officers-in-charge of Cadet Region or not will greatly depend on the duty nature, date and time, etc.
The principals of secondary schools who are interested to establish a Cadet Division in their schools may write to:
