Secondary students aged
12-18 can apply as ambulance & nursing cadet through
their secondary schools. For details, please click to

| Members of the public who reach
the age of 17 with good conduct and suitable physique,
as well as holders of a valid First Aid Certificate, are
eligible to apply for joining the Brigade. Those who do
not possess a valid First Aid Certificate may also apply,
but have to attend and pass a First Aid Course arranged
by St. John before they can be enrolled as members. |
| Apart from training in first
aid, members will be taught in home nursing, foot-drill,
knowledge of Brigade Regulations, leadership training,
division administration and management. |
| Brigade uniforms are provided
free to members, who are required to attend weekly training
sessions to be highly competent in first aid, to pass
an annual re-examination, be present at the annual inspection,
and to perform at least 60 hours public duties yearly
(e.g. first aid duties at ambulances, football matches,
athletic meets, horse races, walkathons and other public
gatherings wherever crowds collect or casualties may be
expected), in order to meet the efficiency requirements. |

| Officers are responsible for
the general oragnization, administration, efficiency,
discipline and welfare of the Brigade members within their
respective divisions/corps/regions/commands. Members can
be promoted to officer rank after passing the Brigade
Officer Course. Direct appointment may be offered to the
following professions: |

| a) |
Registered Medical Practitioner and Dentist. |
| b) |
Registered Nurse and Enrolled Nurse. |
| c) |
Substantive Ambulance Officer
of Hong Kong Fire Services, who is also holder of a valid
First Aid Certificate*. |
| d) |
Qualified Squad Drill Instructor
at the armed forces, who is also holder of a valid First
Aid Certificate*. |
| e) |
Teacher-in-charge for Cadets,
who is also holder of a valid First Aid Certificate*.

| (* Officers must be in possession
of a St. John Home Nursing Certiciate within the calendar
year following the year of joining.) |
| Medical Practitioners and Nurses
who join the Brigade are expected to assist in the training
of members in medical & nursing subjects, to give
lectures and to conduct annual re-examinations in First
Aid & Home Nursing, as required. |

| All Presidents are free of
responsibility over Brigade administration. Members of
the public who are of sound financial status & social
standing, able to provide personal contribution towards
major Brigade functions & dedication towards the cause
of the Brigade, and willing to give annual financial support
to subsidize the recurrent expenditure of the respective
division in the Brigade which are not subvented or partly
subvented by government, are welcome to join the Brigade
as Presidents. |
| All members of the Brigade
are volunteers and they do not get paid for their services.
